Job Purpose

Responsible for leading culture development and delivering the residential home’s objectives in line with the Statement of Purpose (SoP) in order to care for, support and meet the needs of children in our care whilst leading and managing the team to achieve this.

To provide exceptionally strong and motivational leadership to all staff and improve performance. To ensure that the organisations consultation approach is consistently applied and developed within the service.

Main Duties & Purpose Responsibilities

  • To be the Registered Manager of Melwin House and work with Ofsted to support the role.
  • To pro-actively lead culture development within Melwin House using effective psychological approaches to deliver a service that’s fit for purpose.
  • Manage at Melwin House ensuring an excellent standard of care that is underpinned by theory, research and psychologically informed practice and in accordance with relevant legislation, procedures, policies and the SoP for the home.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor quality of care, casework and administrative functions of Melwin House and evaluate standards of performance against targets. To ensure that regular clinical supervision is in place for all staff, and external specialists and consultants. Receive regular clinical supervision, with an agreed clinical supervisor.
  • Lead, assist and supervise in the continual assessment of children’s needs and to identify and prepare specific development plans, working with partners where appropriate, to ensure the most appropriate service provision.
  • To ensure that rotas are in place that meet the contracted support hours for each individual child and young person.
  • To plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and consultations, encourage staff participation, and follow through with required actions within the minutes.
  • To plan and implement regular staff supervision, performance management and annual appraisals to residential staff.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that each staff member attends all mandatory courses and to ensure that other relevant training is undertaken as pertinent to the needs at Melwin House and to meet organisational and legislative requirements.
  • To be involved in the recruitment and interviewing of new staff at Melwin House.
  • To ensure that robust communication systems are in place so that any new information relating to a child or young person is passed on to relevant people, such as shift plans, handovers, etc. To be responsible for ensuring this is to be done strictly in accordance with confidentiality guidelines on information sharing.
  • Facilitate specialist and comprehensive staff training & clinical supervision to enable staff to reflect and demonstrate the skills and expertise to meet the needs of the children in their care.
  • Ensure financial & administrative procedures are adhered to and to work within a budget.
  • Support the development of supportive and therapeutic relationships between staff, children and other stakeholders. Liaise with various internal/external multi-disciplinary teams and commissioning authorities to ensure the care needs of our children are met effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the efficient, safe management of Melwin House, including budget management, health and safety regulations, statutory regulations, adequate staffing levels and be part of an on-call system.
  • Ensure that professional ethics and behaviour are demonstrated by all staff at all times. Actively co-ordinate the service provision and be a focal point for support, advice and supervision to all staff within the home.
  • Work with managers to ensure that staff work together and with others towards meeting the emotional, psychological and physical needs of the children and planning for positive outcomes.
  • Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting individual rights, providing good quality care which is free from oppression and where differences are respected and valued.
  • Accountable and responsible for liaising with regulatory organisations in relation to the way Melwin House is managed ensuring all necessary documentation required by regulators is completed to a high standard and be available for inspections/checks or interviews as requested.
  • Promote appropriate and therapeutic relationships between staff, children and families, promoting the children's involvement and participation in the day-to-day life of the home.
  • Maintain a homely, nurturing, clean and safe environment; ensure that the physical state of the building is maintained to a high standard and that all repair/maintenance issues are resolved promptly.
  • Participate in a range of corporate and management activities as defined by the Responsible Individual. To chair meetings, reviews and discussions as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain contact with local neighbours and community groups

Qualifications

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care or willingness to undertake training to achieve this

Able to deal effectively with emergency situations, Able to prioritise, manage workload and delegate effectively, High level thinking and communication skills with the ability to analyse and make connections between different fields, sectors and environments, Good organisational and administrative skills, Able to effectively performance manage staff using formal procedures where necessary, Ability to present to a wide range of audiences, integrating the issue of statutory compliance with effective therapeutic childcare, Competent ICT skills, Full manual driving licence valid for UK (Desirable), Positive attitude towards diversity and culture formulation, specifically towards the rights, inclusion and voice for children and young people with complex needs
