Our Mission
At Proximal, our mission is to use interactions to help us understand and meet the needs of the children in our care
Our Vision is to give children the opportunity to grow, the knowledge to understand the world, and the belief that they can change it for the better.
Our vision reaches beyond the walls of our home. We believe that by offering relational, reflective, and inclusive care, we not only support the children we live and work alongside, we also model what’s possible for wider systems. Through shared learning, ongoing consultation, and listening deeply to care-experienced voices, we hope to influence the future of residential care itself: one where compassion, connection, and curiosity are at the centre of every decision made for a child.

“What has happened to you, what matters to you, and how can we walk beside you?”
At Proximal, we envision a world where every child and young person feels safe, connected, and valued, not because of what they achieve, but because of who they are. A world where difference is not just accepted, but celebrated, where neurodiversity, culture, background, and individuality are respected as part of what makes each child whole.
We imagine a network of support that recognises children in the full context of their identity, lived experience, and relationships.
We aspire to an approach to care that moves beyond crisis and containment, where children are not assessed from a distance or viewed through a lens of behaviour, but are instead held in mind, met with consistency, and offered connection, presence, and trust.
We believe that children thrive in a supportive ecosystem where adults are emotionally available, boundaries are compassionate, and expectations are high but fair. Where trust is earned, voices are heard, and relationships are sustained over time.

Our Objectives
To realise these aims, Proximal Living is committed to:
1. Providing emotionally available care
Creating safe, consistent relationships that support co-regulation, emotional expression, and connection. Care is developmentally informed, trauma-attuned, and grounded in trust and presence.
2. Ensuring safety and stability
Maintaining an environment that is physically, emotionally, and psychologically safe. We provide reliable routines, boundaries, and responses that help children feel secure, regulated, and seen.
3. Championing child voice, agency, and identity
Children are supported to make choices, participate in decisions, and express who they are. We affirm their culture, neurodiversity, beliefs, and lived experience, building a strong sense of self and belonging.
4. Undertaking ongoing, relational assessment
We conduct dynamic, holistic assessments that evolve with the child’s journey. These are informed by the child themselves, their family, key staff, clinicians, educators, and others who know them well.
5. Embedding reflective, relational practice
Our care is guided by curiosity, observation, and collaboration. Through regular Proximal Consultation, we review and adapt care in ways that are responsive, empathetic, and context-aware.
6. Providing specialist, child centric support
We support children with complex emotional, relational, neurodevelopmental, and behavioural needs, including autism, ADHD, trauma, mental health difficulties, and risk of exploitation. No child is reduced to a label. Each receives personalised support, guided by their strengths and aspirations.
7. Responding to each child’s unique context
We shape our approach around each young person’s identity, experiences, and relationships. Our care is inclusive, neurodiversity-affirming, culturally responsive, and sensitive to individual profile.
8. Supporting access to education, learning, and long-term achievement
Every young person is supported to access and sustain meaningful learning. Whether through school, alternative provision, tutoring, or vocational pathways, we champion inclusive education and lifelong curiosity. We work closely with Virtual School Heads, SENCOs, and educators to create realistic, ambitious plans that reflect each child’s strengths and context.
9. Promoting emotional, social, and relational development
We help children build emotional literacy, regulate feelings, and form trusting relationships. Through shared experiences, play, and restorative approaches, we support friendship-building, social confidence, and the ability to navigate group dynamics safely.
10. Planning for stability, independence, and growth
Transitions are approached with sensitivity, structure, and emotional readiness, from first arrival through to moving on. We support each child’s developmental journey toward autonomy and long-term connection.
11. Collaborating with care networks
We work in close partnership with families, social workers, mental health teams, schools, youth justice services, and advocates. Our approach is always multi-agency and co-created, with the child’s needs at the centre.
