Our Approach

At Proximal, our approach is rooted in the belief that consistent, reflective relationships are the foundation of meaningful change. Many of the children we support have experienced trauma, loss, exclusion, or disrupted attachments. Rather than focusing on managing behaviour, we prioritise understanding the emotional and developmental needs behind it.

Who we're here for

We care for children and young people aged 10–18. We make care feel like home by keeping life simple, predictable, and personal. Everyone gets a warm welcome, and a clear plan so they know what to expect.

What makes us different

  • Personalised care: Plans, routines, and bedrooms shaped with each child or young person.
  • Specialist support: Consistent emotional support with the right experts involved at the right time.
  • Strong links to education: Close partnership with schools and Virtual Schools to keep learning on track.
  • Family-style home: Warm spaces, shared meals, and celebrations that build belonging.
  • Careful matching: We consider needs and peer mix so each child or young person joins the right home.
  • Team around the child or young person: We plan and review with families, social workers, schools, and health partners.
  • Kind culture and clear boundaries: We notice progress and make time for fun.
  • Safety first: Safer recruitment, strong safeguarding, and clear routines keep children and young people safe.

How we care day to day

Days follow a steady rhythm: school or learning, time to play or relax, shared meals, and a calm bedtime. The child or young person’s voice leads. We check in often, celebrate progress, and change what is not helping.

Our Vision:

"AVAR"

  • Ambitious for children’s development
  • Valuing quality interactions
  • Acquiring understanding through consultation
  • Reflecting on applied practice

We are committed to providing care that is not only trauma-aware and neurodiversity-affirming, but also culturally responsive and anti-discriminatory. We ensure that each child’s identity, heritage, and lived experience are respected and represented in their everyday care.
